Weight Management Tips for the Holiday Season

Don't let the holidays disrupt your weight maintenance routine!

You know it better than anyone: losing weight is only the first step. Once the pounds are off, you have to work just as hard to maintain a healthy BMI. Nothing can set you back more than a season of traditional holiday meals and treats. What to do? These tips could save you!

  • Differentiate between holidays and the holiday season. Holidays actually last one day, not two months. The reasoning of "it's a special occasion" cannot be used for this entire season. Limit it to only a couple special days.
  • Don't skip meals. If you pass on breakfast, your self-control will not be strong enough when you arrive at a break room filled with donuts or other holiday treats. Stay full on healthy foods.
  • Keep a healthy snack on you. Nuts, fruit, or carrot sticks all make for a nutritious snack. Turn to these options when someone is tempting you with a box of fudge.
  • Pack some motivation. Along with healthy alternatives, it may be a good idea to keep a weight maintenance manifesto on you – something that details why you're striving for self-control in the first place. Read it when you're feeling weak.
  • Avoid triggers when you can. While we aren't suggesting you skip memorable holiday parties or events, you can stay out of the candy aisles at the grocery store, or that table at work where everyone leaves goodies to share.

If you can't seem to keep that extra weight off, a medical weight loss option may be your next step. Find out more at our website. Call our free Consult-a-Nurse® service at 1-888-741-5122 to ask questions or request a physician referral.
